Man bags 4 months jail term for beating commercial sex worker in Abuj
A Zuba Upper Area court in Abuja on Monday sentenced 34-year-old Uche Duru, to four months imprisonment for beating up a commercial sex worker.
The presiding Judge, Mallam Aminu Sa’ad, gave the judgment following the convict’s guilty plea to the one count charge of causing grievous body injury preferred against him.
Sa’ad, however, gave Duru an option to pay a fine of N10, 000 and also pay a compensation of N22, 000 to the complainant.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Momoh Ibrahim, while testifying before the court, said one Jessica Stephen on July 11 came to market/garage police out station-Zuba (FCT) to report the matter.
According to the prosecutor, the complainant in her statement to the police said Duru attacked her in her house.
She further noted in her statement that, she lost her Samsung phone worth N11, 000 while the convict was beating her, adding that she also sustained an injury on her head which was treated for N11, 000
Ibrahim disclosed that the convict, by his action, contravened the provisions of Section 247 of the Penal Code law.

Sterling has inched closer to his move away from Anfield on Tuesday, after he completed his medical ahead of a switch to the Etihad stadium.Sterling is understood to have agreed a contract with Man City worth around £200,000 a week, which is a lot more than the £30,000 a week deal which the player is currently on at Anfield.
The BBC’s David Ornstein – arguably the most trusted source of transfer news in England – reported on Twitter that Sterling had finished his medical.
He further added that as soon as the “paperwork” is taken care of, Sterling will jump on a plane to join up with Man City’s pre-season in Australia.
